Read on to find out more about our great facilities for teenage members.
As Stevenage grows as a town it offers plenty of interesting activities and sports for young people. However not everyone wants to play competitive sport and even those that do, could often benefit from facilities that allow them to train for their sport. Places to get fit within a safe and welcoming environment are few and far between.
Active Fitness Club is the most progressive health and fitness training facility in the area and has always been at the forefront of change. We want to provide opportunities for both the young and old to benefit from top class fitness facilities. Our youth membership gives young people aged 13 to 17 full access to all our club facilities, supporting them to maintain and improve their physical and mental health, which in turn improves their confidence, energy and activity levels during their transition into young adults.
At a substantially reduced rate of just £13.95 per month, young people can use the cardio area, strength area, functional exercise area, boxing zone, high performance Wattbike Zone, classes and squash courts. In fact they can do pretty much everything an adult can do at the Club, but that means that we also require them to act like an adult and use the facilities respectfully. Use of free weights and resistance machines is restricted to those who demonstrate the necessary strength and performance with bodyweight only exercises, however all young people can still benefit from strength training using the extensive functional exercise area, situated in our main gym.
What you’ll get:
A 30-minute induction where we’ll establish your current activity levels and discuss your training goals. Our expert instructors show you how to use gym equipment in order to maximise your time and the effectiveness of your workout. All inductions will need to be pre-booked at reception. Please note that ALL under 18s must have an induction before they can use the gym facilities.
Teenagers guide to exercise
This guide will cover the basics of how to exercise in a high performance training facility like Active Fitness Club. Ideally, the guide should be read by both the new young member AND their parent or guardian. It will also provide suggestions to help our younger members structure suitable workouts, following their induction.
As a new member, we will call you to check everything is going well. If you have been following your session plan it’s likely that you will be getting fitter and the follow-on call is a great way to get some new ideas, to help keep things interesting in the gym.
Fully supervised gym
You can be reassured that all members train in the gym under the watchful eyes of our top instructors, giving you all the advice you need to boost your fitness in a safe and controlled manner. Whether you’re building your strength, training to improve your sport or improving your general fitness, we’ve got it covered.
What you need to know:
Teenage Membership (13-17 year olds)
There is a monthly fee of £13.95. There is NO joining fee. If you want to reduce the cost, you can opt to pay for 12 months in full, which costs just £139.95; this saves you the cost of two months fees and brings the effective monthly fee to just £11.65. All under 18s must have an induction before they can use the gym facilities and 13-16 year olds must have a consent form from a parent or guardian, which will be sent to them by email when they join up. So please check your emails.
During the long summer holiday break, we also offer a £20 summer membership, which offers full use of the Club for the 6 week summer holiday. This may be of particular interest to those that want to use the facilities during the summer, when other term time activities have ceased.
